Therapy for Parents & Children (Birth to 5)

Being a parent/caregiver is both rewarding and challenging. No one is taught to be a parent and no one is perfect. You might seek therapy for two reasons:

  1. You’re struggling due to:

    • Difficulties adjusting to your new baby

    • Increased conflicts with your partner

    • Postpartum depression or anxiety

    • Worrying about your child’s development

  2. You’re coping well but want to enhance your child’s growth and development as much as possible.

What to expect

Seeking therapy can feel uncertain. Here’s what you can expect from my services:

**Step 1 - Consultation Call**
It's beneficial to reach out to therapists to get a feel for their personalities and therapeutic methods. During call, I'll ask about your reasons for seeking therapy and explain my approach. I'll also collect information regarding your insurance or out-of-pocket payment options. If it feels like a good fit, we can proceed to step 2.

**Step 2 Intake and Assessment (2-4 sessions)**
In the intake phase, we will review consent forms and start collecting information about your main concerns. For young children, assessments are comprehensive and may take 2-4 sessions, as they involve narrative questions, observations and tools like the Ages and Stages Questionnaire to identify potential developmental issues.

**Step 3 - Therapy**
After the assessment sessions, we will create a tailored service plan for you and your child, and therapy will commence.

The parent is always present in therapy with children 0-5.

My Approach

Through my work as a therapist I have learned that as an individual we own our own stories. Regardless whether these stories are tragic or pleasant, we hold the power to rewrite our personal narratives. Author and College Professor, Brene Brown tells us that, "when we deny our stories, they define us. When we own our stories, we get to rewrite the ending." This is a powerful reminder that we hold the key to our own resilience and that we are NOT defined by our past experiences. This is the lens through which I approach the therapeutic process with clients.

As a clinician, I am simply an active facilitator in guiding your process as deep as you desire. The premise of owning your story and rewriting the ending remains the same whether I am engaged with a child, adolescent or adult in a myriad of relational constellations.
