Children and Adolescents (5-18)

"Seeking negative attention means I need you to see me."

Dr. Mona Delahooke

As a child and adolescent therapist, I've observed that children and teens have numerous concerns. Just consider! They are in the process of discovering their identity and self-image, with aspects of their lives still uncertain. Nonetheless, strong relationships with loved ones provides essential support to navigate the various changes faced during this developmental stage.

Some Reasons Children/Teens Seek Therapy

  • Poor or recent decrease in academic performance

  • Aggressive behavior toward self and others

  • Difficulty sitting still or lacking focus

  • Anxious or overly preoccupied with things

  • Feeling sad, lonely, or depressed

  • Difficulty with making or keeping friends

  • Family issues (conflict between parent-child, child-siblings, recent divorce/separation)

  • Past or recent trauma

What to Expect

Here’s what you can expect from my services:

**Step 1 - Consultation Call**
It's beneficial to reach out to therapists to get a feel for their personalities and therapeutic methods. During call, I'll ask about your reasons for seeking therapy and explain my approach. I'll also collect information regarding your insurance or out-of-pocket payment options. If it feels like a good fit, we can proceed to step 2.

**Step 2 Intake and Assessment (2-4 sessions)**
In the intake phase, we will review consent forms and start collecting information about your main concerns. For children, assessments are comprehensive and may take 2-4 sessions, as it involve gathering information from the parent and the child in conjoint sessions and individual sessions. At times, assessment information is also gathered from child's child care provider and/or teacher.

**Step 3 - Therapy**
After the assessment sessions, we will create a tailored service plan for you and your child/teen, and therapy will commence.

Session Rates

Individual Therapy (Child or Teen) - $140 per 50 minute session

Family Therapy - $140 per 50 minute session

My Approach

Through my work as a therapist I have learned that as an individual we own our own stories. Regardless whether these stories are tragic or pleasant, we hold the power to rewrite our personal narratives. Author and College Professor, Brene Brown tells us that, "when we deny our stories, they define us. When we own our stories, we get to rewrite the ending." This is a powerful reminder that we hold the key to our own resilience and that we are NOT defined by our past experiences. This is the lens through which I approach the therapeutic process with clients.

As a clinician, I am simply an active facilitator in guiding your process as deep as you desire. The premise of owning your story and rewriting the ending remains the same whether I am engaged with a child, adolescent or adult in a myriad of relational constellations.

Contact me if you are ready to own your story and rewrite the ending!
